Just in case you're interested, the term "trailer" comes from the days of yore when rather than showing previews for upcoming films before the feature presentation, they used to be shown afterwards, trailing the film. The term just stuck, as these things do. Enjoy the completely useless info :D

fantastic thanks for that. very enlightening. when i was growing up in Australia, going to the cinema and watching a fair few vids through the mid-80s to mid-90s everyone seemed to call them previews, then somewhere around 97 they suddenly became trailers.
the only thing that i thought of was those old Beta tapes that had trailers at the end, in the same way you've mentioned, previews of upcoming films shown after the feature.
wonder why the sudden change, maybe the internet and more people noticing what the rest of the world were calling them... language it's a fun thing.
